Using Generators Safely

NWL0003 switchboard

Solar and wind generators enable you to produce your own electricity for your own use, however it can pose a risk to anyone working on power lines. For that reason, Network Waitaki needs to know the locations of solar and wind generators; so it can be isolated when we need to conduct maintenance.

Standby generation for farms and dairy sheds or other businesses must be set up so they are unable to back feed into the NWL network - contact NWL on 0800 440 220 for information.

Portable generators must be connected correctly to your house if you intend to use one in cases of an outage so they do not back feed into the NWL network - contact NWL on 0800 440 220 for information.

For more information on using generators safely see our document on Using Engine driven Generating Sets.
