Electricity retailers (sometimes referred to as traders) purchase electricity from the wholesale electricity market to sell to residential, commercial and industrial users.

Transpower, as the national grid operator transports electricity all around New Zealand, and distributors such as Network Waitaki then take the electricity from Transpower and deliver the electricity to consumers around the region.

Are you on the right power plan?

There are a couple of websites that you can use to check that you are on the right power plan for your needs. There is Powerswitch from Consumer NZ and Billy from the Electricity Authority.

We have agreed to deliver electricity to customers of the electricity retailers listed below. We apply the same prices to all retailers for the services we deliver to encourage competition between retailers.
